Hi gents,
The old girl got her RWC yesterday. Now my only problem is to decide if I'm going to convert it into a racer, Or sell it off to a collector and start with something resembling a wreck. It seems such a pity to take something so original and convert it into a stripped down racer. (if you do a search on CB350 in the gallery you'll find an image of it)
I'd be interested in your thoughts on the costs of starting with something "rough" (say under $500) and getting it to approximately the same point as Ben's "Saga" (minus the custom tank) I'm currently working on these figures as a cost estimate.
Rolling Frame $400.00 New rims (inc lacing) $400.00 New tyres $350 Powder coating Frame $150.00 Assorted welding bits (rods etc) $50.00 Mikuni carbs linkages etc. new $350.00 Standard engine rebuilt (gaskets, rings, top-end rebuild, stronger timing chain, slipper etc) $1500.00 Re****ts $150.00 Fork rebuild $150.00 New chain sprockets etc. $300.00 Racing seat $130.00
Approximate total $3930.00
Really what I'm after is a ball park feel for the costs. 2k? 3k? 5k? what do you think? what do people, "admit" ;) to spending to get their 1st racer on the track....? Anyone here have a source for bronze swingarm bushes for a CB350K4 (1972)? I'd also be interested in a pair of NOS standard swingarm bushes if anyone has some. (the current bushes are getting a little sloppy so I figure it's best to replace them now rather than later when its getting dangerous)
Regards Craig Whitto

Would be a shame to see that 350 torn down!
I have spent about 2Gs so far including the price of the bike (600). Don't forget to factor in tyres (300), re****ts, clip-ons etc..... I found its all the little things that throw the budget out (pretty much all the time.....)
If you could take on the engine build your self, you could make a race engine for about the same money rather than a new stocker. For example; Megacycle cam = 400 Race pistons (whichever ones = M3, toad town racing, henning etc) 4 - 500 megacycle valve spring kit = 200
Could be an option.......
