We would love to see some classic bikes in this!
24th—26th April 2009
The Yilgarn Rallye is a 2 day navigation cross country rallye that is similar to the Australian Safari and the Condo 750 rallye in NSW.
Held over the Anzac weekend for 2009, the event is based at Southern Cross on the edge of the Goldfields of Western Australia and takes in around 1,000 km of station tracks, mining exploration tracks and gravel roads around Southern Cross.
Just like the Safari, the Yilgarn Rallye tests not only your off-road racing skills but also the stamina and durability of both you and your bike. The rallye covers tough desert terrain where you need to be on your toes to both keep on track, on time and preserve both body and machine to make it to the finish.
However, like both the Safari and the famous Dakar Rallye it’s not just about race pace. There are no route arrows to show you the way, no bunting, just your road-book and Speedo. Navigation is a big part of the event.
If you don’t navigate you go nowhere! If you have ever wondered what it would be like to have a crack at the Safari, the Yilgarn Rallye is the chance to have a taste and see if you are up to it! Provision is made for riders’ skill from the first time novice off-roader to expert levels when setting the rallye route, but riders’ machines will need to be of reasonable condition and reliability to complete the rallye.
A friendly and relaxed atmosphere is created for the event which caters for riders of all skill and experience levels. All riders are made welcome with the emphasis on safety, fun and the satisfaction of navigating your way through some fantastic goldfields scenery and finishing the rallye.
The rallye is a sanctioned Motorcycling Australia event that is hosted by the Southern Cross Motorcycle Club. The Yilgarn Rallye management team comprises many past Australian Safari competitors and organizing officials and is committed to bringing a high quality, enjoyable and successful 2 day navigation rallye event to Western Australia.
