THIS IS A LIST OF CATEGORIES BEING CONSIDERED. MOST MACHINES WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY AND HENCE MAY GET UP TO 10 RACES. WE HAVE ABANDONED THE NORMAL CLASS AND CAPACITY SYSTEM IN AN ATTEMOT TO SEE IF WE CAN DO SOMETHING THAT MAY BE MORE FUN!!!!

WINTER AT WINTON, ICE BOX, ICICLE AT WINTON HISTORIC AND MODERN MOTORCYCLE RACING 1910- 2010 MACHINES. Draft 7 SUMMARY
Currently the Historic RIDERS are seeking more races at Winton and Preston,MCC a Modern race club, has trouble getting more than 70 entries. This plan involves having an interclub event run by the HMRAV and Preston MCC, to promote Historic, Pre modern and modern machines from also East Malvern MCC, Hartwell MCC and one other can be invited also. By combining we may get 100 historic [current figures], 70 Moderns 20 pre moderns [That’s what attends the interclub series] and additional machines from NSW who are seeking more Historic races. By running on one event licenses we may also gain additional entries.
HOW IT WOULD WORK
The HMRAV would manage the Historic entries, Preston would manage the Modern and pre modern entries. At the circuit the usual management by senior officials would run the event. Additional officials will be needed to manage event allocation, printing of place getters certificates and managing the bracket racing times.
Machines will be allocated to each category based on its capabilities, riders may find themselves in a variety of races which they may find strange but please bear with us. You may get up to 7-8 races.
It is anticipated both clubs would promote the event, through programs, the web and newsletters and print media. Together with the HMRAV may be able to fund the event in which case an agreed fee per entry would be paid to the HMRAV one week prior to the start of the event.
Entry fees of the magnitude of $180 would be possible with $160 per entry being payable to cover the cost of funding the event. No prize money will be paid.
SERVICES REQUIRED The higher levels of medical intervention and ambulance would be required, timing with transponders to assist with the potential to run bracket racing would be needed. The pit sheds at Winton could accommodate all comers and mingling of the racers would be encouraged to prevent any division of “them and us”. Sidecars should be kept together. No trophies, but certificates for each place and category. Printed at track. Trophies may come later when we get the event going. Any disputes about improvements will be accepted only in written form for latter reference. PROMOTION Posters should be issued around town, web and printed media as well and programs etc.
RACING Use the long track. - Bracket racing between all comers to be considered.
MODERN 4 races ROADRACE CLASSES for discussion only at this stage Sound of Singles® (SOS) Super SOS Mono 2: Four-valve four-strokes to 510cc and two-valve four-strokes to 610cc. Super SOS Mono™: Unlimited displacement four-strokes. Production SOS Singles. Single-cylinder four-stroke motorcycles that are or were available for sale to the general public and intended for street use in the U.S. Two-Stroke SOS Singles: Two-stroke singles to 550cc. Battle of Twins® (BOT) Formula BOT 3 Twins: Pushrod OHV twins to 1000cc, OHC 2- or 3-valve to 800cc and OHC liquid-cooled 4-valve to 650cc. Formula BOT 2 Twins: Pushrod OHV machines to 1250cc, liquid-cooled OHC to 750cc, air-cooled 2-valve to OHC to 1000cc and air-cooled 4-valve to 1000cc. Formula BOT 1 Twins: No displacement limits. Engine modifications are unlimited, except on water-cooled 4-valve twins over 900cc. Open BOT Two-Stroke: Air-cooled machines to 500cc, water-cooled motorcycles with tubular frame to 400cc and modern 250cc GP type machines. Sound of Thunder® Unlimited displacement four-stroke singles; 4-valve desmo twins to 1000cc, OHC twins to 1100cc and pushrod twins to 1350cc; three-cylinder machines to 1000cc; and twin-rotor rotary engines. Chook chasers : Single cylinder dirt bikes kitted for road racing. No fairings or clip ons. For 1996-2009 machines.
Thunder bikes: Twin cylinder dirt bikes kitted for road racing. No fairings or clip ons. For 1996-2009 machines
Superbike Modern: 740cc & over solo machines.
Superstock 500: 4 Stroke 500cc - 550cc any number of cylinders
Supersport 600 : 4 stroke 600cc 4-cyl & 750cc 2-cyl machines
Superstock 600: 4 stroke 600cc 4-cyl, 675cc 3-cyl & 750cc 2-cyl machines
Superstock 1000: 4 Stroke 1000cc 4-cyl & 2-cyl or 3-cyl 1200cc machines
125cc GP: Grand Prix style machines, single cylinder of up to 125cc.
POSTIE HONDA No clip ons
Formula Modern 250:. OPEN TWO-STROKE: Air-cooled two-stroke motorcycles to 500cc; water-cooled two-strokes With a tubular frame to 400cc; and modern 250cc GP type machines.

Formula 400: For 400cc machines.
Modern Sidecar: Machines complying with rules specified by MV for Modern Road racing Sidecars.

Clubsport Lites: 4 stroke 250cc machines complying with rules specified by MV for Clubsport machines.
TRANSATLANTIC CHALLENGE: Pits Triumph Thruxton's and Bonnevilles against USA AND EUROPEAN PERIOD 6 STYLE OF twin MACHINE. Points scored
JUNIORS 5 - 6 RACES
Potentially 12 machines Vic Junior 150 Series: 150cc 4 stroke machines complying with GCR’s rules 15.14 & 15.16. (Age 13 - 15).
Vic Junior 80 Series: 80cc 2 stroke machines complying with GCR’s rules 15.14 & 15.16. (Age 13-15).
Metrakit 70 GP Series/ Vic Junior 70 Series: Only Metrakit machines complying with GCR’s rules 15.14 & 15.15 (up to 70cc 2 Stroke). See Victorian Metrakit Series Supp Reg’s for more info. (Age 9 – 12).
Metrakit 80 GP Series: Only Metrakit machines complying with GCR’s rules 15.14 & 15.15 (up to 80cc 2 Stroke). See Victorian Metrakit Series Supp Reg’s for more info. (Age 13 – 15).

HISTORIC RACING CLASSES 5 races PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Class C: For 500cc OHV and 750cc Side valve machines up to and including those manufactured December 31, 1951, as a ‘51 model.
Pre-1940 Grand Prix: 1940 and earlier Grand Prix or modified street machines, 125, 250, 350,500 and 750cc
500 Historic Single: 500cc four-stroke OHV and OHC, single cylinder machines built before the end of 1968.
350 Historic Grand Prix: 350cc four-stroke machines; 350cc air-cooled, single-cylinder, two-strokes with no more than five speeds; 250cc two-stroke water-cooled singles; 250cc twin-cylinder air-cooled two-strokes with no more than six speeds. Machines must have been built before Dec. 31, 1968.
250 Historic Grand Prix: 250cc four-stroke machines; 250cc air-cooled, maximum five-speed, single-cylinder two-strokes; Machines must have been built before Dec. 31, 1968. 200 Historic Grand Prix: This class combines a variety of engine designs and displacements between 125cc and 250cc, based on an index of performance. 175cc two-stroke water-cooled singles; 175cc air-cooled, twin-cylinder, two-stroke machines with no more than six speeds. HISTORIC CHOOK CHASERS Single cylinder two stroke and 4 stroke dirt bikes kitted for road racing. No fairings or clip ons.
Sportsman 72 EXOTIC: Four-stroke, maximum three-cylinder street bike-based machines, divided into 350cc, 500cc classes. No full fairings or clip ons. The cutoff is Dec. 31, 1972. Sportsman 72 SMOKERS: Two-stroke, maximum three-cylinder street bike-based machines, divided into 350cc, 550cc classes. No full fairings or clip ons The cutoff is Dec. 31, 1972.
Sportsman 75/750 El Combination: Four or two stroke machines from 1968 to Dec. 31 1975. For 600cc to 750cc classes. No full fairings or clip ons.
Superbike 1975: Four- stroke upto 900cc machines from 1965 to Dec. 31 1975 basically in stock form. No full fairings or clip ons.
Superbike 1980: Four- stroke Unlimited machines from 1976 to Dec. 31 1980. No full fairings or clip ons.
Sportsman 80/750 : Four stroke machines from 1976 to Dec. 31 1980. Divided into upto 750cc classes. No full fairings or clip ons.
Or try this sort of thing Vintage Superbike. Three classes for motorcycles built up to the 1982 model year and originally manufactured as street machines. Motorcycles are to be as close to "production" appearance as possible. Classes are - Heavyweight (unlimited displacement twins and pushrod triples, and displacement-limited fours and sixes), - Middleweight (unlimited displacement singles, with limited pushrod twins, OHC twins, pushrod triples and OHC fours) and - Lightweight (singles, twins and multis using performance indexes for smaller bikes).
Novice Historic Production 1980, 1975, 1972 and earlier production street machines with the standard OEM frame, swing arm, forks and handlebar mounts. Engines use the original OEM bore and stroke. Racing under bracket rules. Classes are: Lightweight (four-strokes up to 500cc, 250cc two-strokes and certain 350cc two-strokes) Middle weight (four-strokes up to 750cc and 350-500cc two-strokes). Heavy weight ( Four strokes 760cc to 999cc )
Sidecar: as per HMRAV current rules Classic, Post Classic and Forgotten ERA 500cc, 650cc, 750cc, 836cc, 900cc and unlimited four-stroke, or two stroke engines.
HOTROD OLDIE CLASS For pre 63 and 1964- 1972 machines without logbooks with any form of modification done to it. This will be conducted under bracket racing rules. Hands off no limits. ALL- IN MATCH RACING GRUDGE RACING ( WE SHALL SHOW YOU!!!!!) OLD BANGERS VS PRETTY BOYS unlimited Fastest 40 All powers machines based on lap times of the Modern and Historic solos. All Historic Solos MUST also comply with modern rules, IE Catch trays etc. 1972 to Dec1980 for Historic’s, eligible Clubman and pre moderns. OLD BANGERS VS PRETTY BOYS Fastest 40 750cc capacity to be agreed a couple of ranges.
BRACKET STUFF FOR OTHER MACHINES RANGES LADIES RACE All comers, all capacity handicap, NO PROOF OF GENDER IS REQUIRED.

I take it most people are not interested in the event since there is little comment. We have other things to do with our time, or if we go ahead dont try and complain about the setup if you have not made a contribution. |

I wouldn't panic just yet, John. You've only had it up on the website for three days. Compare that to the time lapse between the issuing of supp regs, and the receiving of entries for each race meeting. Without question, classic bike racers are pretty slow on the communications front...and in fact, considering the deafening silence before, during and after the recent historic nats at Morgan Park, most of them are reticent to burst into print at all ! Nevertheless, the considerable list of possibilities you've listed for consideration as classes to adopt is worth a read, and is a good opportunity for those who aren't happy with current class structures to get across their point of view. (Is it just me, or has Glen20 gone into the cone of silence since he's been sprung ?) Whatever the case John, you've given riders the chance to pick their programme. If they can't be bothered contributing, as you say, they can't complain. Good on you for looking outside the square, mate. Regards GD |

As an afterthought, what about running a written survey, or show of hands, from the riders assembled for the Southern Classic, that'll give you some indication of whether they're prepared, or imaginative enough, to support (shudder !) CHANGE ! |

We had wondered about doing taht, in part as additional promotion, but I thought some feedback intially may have fixed any glaring problems or show any unclear parst about the concept. I am tryingto call the new concept as having categories rather than classes to not confuse anybody about the differences. |

John, re the sidecars in this proposal? Would you expect that the smaller capacity outfits might be mostly in classic, i.e. 750 and under, or might they also crop up in P4? I can see some barn finds turning up in smaller capacities, and a cheaper option, i.e. a hot but near stock 750 Honda. (Hmm, I know of a certain recently retired Pig that might get resurrected). Additionally, the "Hot Rod" class interests me, (could get me back on a solo). Do you have any further details of this? Cheers, Tony. |

The sidecars will be settled according to the levels of Guinness supplied to the planners.
Classic sidecars would be separated from the P4's. Stock 750cc hondas could run with 836 group and have their own section if the numbers front.
Hot rod solos would need to technicly comply with modern rules; no methanol, oil catch trays fitted etc but that should not be hard. They would run together of the numbers turn up. Note we are talking categories not classes, but the sidecars would be pretty much as we run them normally. |

I am just asking if people can pass judgement on thsi idea. It is no good me following it up if only a few think its a good idea.
