One of the hot topics at the moment is dwindling entries, dwindling spectators and rising costs for everyone.
Perhaps, to encourage new racers to take part we could be a little more open with suppliers of parts, and workshops who are interested in helping in bike prep. I am not saying that we all give away our tuning secrets or anything. One of the most daunting tasks is finding where to get race parts from. I have spent a lot of time and money researching suppliers, sadly most of whom are overseas. My cb350 won't hit the track until late this year or early next but already, just through being open about where I get my stuff from, I have another local who has now got a bike and I am helping him prep his own project. The cb350 and 125 4 stroke pages go some way towards this but maybe we need a bit more info sharing and maybe this would help any other newbies to get started. Its ok to wander around the pits at a meeting but really most riders are busy with their own efforts and not always available to have a deep and meaningful with a newbie, who may also be a bit intimidated. Perhaps as a start we could have a page on this forum, where we can list our projects and what parts we have used, and from where we sourced them. Just my two bobs worth.

Anything to make it easier for new people to get involved must be a good thing.

I run an open workshop on Tuesday evenings in Oakleigh for anybody to come and work on my bike, their bike, somebody elses bike or just sit and drink
a coffee
b beer
c tea
d water
e Bourbon
It can be an interesting evening with different projects which may even be a car / billy cart or simply a welding repair job. |

| Great idea John, we often have shed days up here in N.E Vic. and do some "bench racing". Its a great way to exchange info, share ideas and get someone elses help. We are not all experts at everything but as a collective, have come up with some clever solutions to bike related issues. |

| I never keep 'tuning secrets'. If anyone wants to copy anything I've done on my bikes I'll help them. A few ytears ago I raced at Mt Gambier and Karel Morlang and his mate were looking at my bike. When I asked them why, they told me that Karel was building a Weslake engined Seeley, and was interested in the way I'd mounted the brake calipers. I took the plates of the bike, traced them, and mailed the drawing to Karel. Sadly he passed away from cancer too soon to get the bike up and running. I'd have loved to have another bike similar to my own Seeley Norton to race against, and I was only too pleased to help. |

Another CB350..we'll have our own Class at this rate! It's hard to get information, but a few guys on this site will help a great deal. Like Ben of the "Saga" fame. The 'market' for CB350 race stuff in Oz is small, so overseas is your best bet for parts. EBay is a good source for performance stuff. What I've found is 1)It's cheaper to buy a used racer then build. 2)Hang around the Pits. Watch and learn. 3) Stickers on Tool boxes are a giveaway where guys buy their stuff. Track Cred you see. Hehehehe.. 4) Ask questions in the Pits. Worst is you'll be told a 'porkie'. Lots of 'them' around. Mainly at the back in any race. 6) "Historic" Racing ain't cheap! Cheap 'racing' is buying a used modern track bike on the FX site. Then leave it in the shed!
You can PM me, and I'll tell you what rims I used, what ignition, what pistons, what carbs, where I got them and how much I paid. No probs. But all 3 my 350's are money pits. And 2 still don't go! But they will. Maybe.....? |

| guys use the dedicated 350 forum,thats what its there for!!,ask away there,you will get lots of good opions,but rarely porkies,we after all, are trying to promote 350K racing,cheers mick |
