A document titled 'Guide to Managing Risk in Motor Sport', has been released for public comment by Standards Australia. Some of you guys involved in running meetings, or those with just an interest in safety should probably have a look at it. It will affect most of what we do at meetings in future. The committee which drafted the document had MA, CAMS, several promoters, 4 Coroners, Workcover, NSW Police, ANDRA, SCCC involved. Copies can be obtained by emailing james.thomson@standards.com.au Your comments very welcome! Best Regards, Alan Cotterell

The committee which dveloped the risk management document needs your help in ensuring it doesn't put our sport into a straight jacket. Copies of the document have been sent to a few top personalities in road racing in Vic, for comment. If you see the document and have any strong feelings about it, please write to the Standardisation Committee at Standards Australia. All comment to james.thomson@standards.com.au please. |

I won't personally have access to the replies from the few guys the draft was sent to. The replies will be evaluated by the Standards Australia Committee, and the draft might even require extensive rewriting, in the light of that comment. You will note that your union (MA), and CAMS are both represented on the committee. The major objective is to get something that is useful without stuffing up the sport. If you have any concerns whatsoever, have a talk with James Thomson the SAA Project Manager on 1300 654 646 or send him an email James.Thomson@standards.com.au Any comments you make will probably not be traceable back to you personally, and the same applies to the few guys who were sent copies of the draft. If you have a look at the draft front pages you'll see the makeup of the committee. They are the main players - controlling bodies, police, coroners, and promoters. |

Strange thing this. I am on the executive of the Historic club over here and an active member of the road race club (moderns) as well as being on the Historic Committee and the Management Committee of MWA and apart from a phone call from Alan Cotterell and this posting on this website I havent seen or heard of this particular subject. Is the motorcycling secret service still in existence or is my imagination running away with me.
Happy days

I don't believe there would be any intention to keep secrets. The time for making comment is now past, however I believe a late entry would be considered, particularly if it included legitimate concerns.
If you want more info please ring James Thomson at Standards Australia on 02 8206 6016 . I'm sure he'll be happy to talk to you. |
