Australia 1st NZ 2nd Poms 3rd
Poms missed out on beating Kiwis by ONLY 13 points. Not a bad job considering the beat up machines they were riding. They are coming back, most likely with their own bikes next year and will probably be very difficult to beat.
One pom was circulating on an almost standard z900 that was weaving down the main straight and was getting 2.02, imagine him on his own P&M machine with about another 30hp and decent road behaviour.
It was a fantastic meeting but a number of compliance issues raised their head, I will leave those to other to discuss. |

I thought Dave Cole was the fastest man on a G50 until I saw Wayne Gardner on one. |

Wayne broke the P3 500cc lap record on Saturday, when my brother was there. I didn't hear his times on the Sunday but in at least two races he was wheel to wheel with Dave Cole, sometimes leading, sometimes a little bit behind. I think he won most of the 500 class races. On one lap Dave was ahead as they came from Southern Loop to Honda, and Wayne passed Dave underbrakes and actually made up about 50 metres to catch him and ended up in the corner about 50 metres ahead of him. I was pretty impressed, I've never known how much of a World Champion was down to the works bike. Appears they're absolutely tops regardless of what they're riding. I'm surprised he can just step onto something so different and go so fast.I think Wayne handed out a little lesson. |

I looked for the Paton on the Sunday but couldn't see it. My brother had a look at it on Saturday, and talked to the owner (from Belgium?). Aparently the nikasil came off in one of the barrels, and that put the kybosh on the effort. Saw my brother on Saturday night, and he said the paton was really immaculate, and worth having a look at. As far as Wayne on a G50 is concerned, I saw a doco where Geoff Duke put him on a Manx. Wayne didn't look too impressed, and I think his comment was that he didn't know they were so bad. I believe he didn't suffer through all the old garbage when he was a kid, like the rest of us. I don't know how often he's ridden big British singles seriously. I had a talk to our fast guy in the Forgotten Era Challenge about Robbie Phillis's effort on a GS 1100 Suzuki. It appears Mick Hone might not have been involved. Apparently Robbie had the big smile all weekend. If he decides he's has a look, 'been there done that', he might not come again. However it looks like he got a bit of a kick out of the Challenge, and If Mick gets behind him again, we could really have some fun with Robbie in the future. He always was a really top competitor, and he gave a bit of good value to spectators last Sunday. If we can get a few more of the old whiz kids interested, next years round could be excellent. We need guys like Robbie, Gregg Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Mal Campbell, Goose Muir, Magoo etc. They're still around, and if they'd have a ride now and then, next years event will be superb. These single event licences are good things! |

Is there a full report or even results from 2006 Island Classic meet posted anywhere? I've been emailing a bloke in Japan about riding at the Island next year but can find very little info to refer him to.
