The Nationals have been run and won.

Thanks everybody for a fantastic time - it was some of the best sidecar action you have seen for a long time.

We had 64 riders and passengers at the event and I talked to a number of solo riders who also have a passion for sidecars.

As a result the informal meeting we held on the Friday evening had a lot of people attend and all had a very positive attitude towards ensuring sidecar racing survives and thrives.

A number of suggestions were floated during that discussion (and we will get to those suggestions in due course) but greatest agreement was that communication was the key ingredient for success.

We agreed:
1) We would use this website as the primary communication tool for historic sidecar racers;
2) All sidecar people will put a message on this site telling everybody which race meetings they are thinking of going to (so that others know what to expect if they consider going to the same meeting);
3) Anybody who knows of any upcoming race meetings will post it on the Calendar page of this website;
4) Everyone will send an email to me ( geoffpgrant@iprimus.com.au ) so that I can begin to construct an email list to assist with supporting this website communications. (Every email I get about sidecars I will share with everybody on the list so that you all have the same list and can begin to share information without me having to pass it on);
5) Through these communications we will focus on a few race meetings and get as many sidecars as possible to those meetings. (The Island Classic is the first one and entries close soon so get on to it.)
6) Possibly most importantly - We are NOT starting another sidecar organisation. We have merely agreed to use the facilities currently available to us to communicate more meaningfully so as to ensure a positive future for all sidecar racing;
7) Graham Rowley and myself got this informal meeting together but we only did so in order to facilitate getting the ball rolling. Neither Graham nor myself consider ourselves as the leaders or organisers of sidecar racers. We are merely ordinary racers who want to see sidecar racing have a positive future.

I have talked with David Greening and he has pledged his support and will set up any forums within this website that we want so if you have an idea - do something about it now.

Once again, thanks everyone for your positive contributions, I look forward to getting lots of emails to share with you all.

John, Geoff and co.

it's all your fault

it has taken a while to make it happen, but I finally got to do a swingers day at Wanneroo a month or so ago, the end result of which is my purchase of a P4 outfit. It has a bit of history having previously campaigned with a rather nasty H2 engine but sanity and inexperience dictate that myself and my partner (he's going to be the pilot, I'm going to be the nut on the side) are fitting a GT750 Suzuki engine in a mild state of tune to learn the craft. I hope you guys don't mind if I ask some really silly questions along the way and dont laugh too much at our inevitable mistakes. My thanks go to Mike Smith for making the outfit available at a fair price, Alan Warner for the encouragement and the guys at MCRCWA for turning it on for us at the tryout day (we now have an abundance of willing passengers and not a few young people trying to get a good price for their mothers/sisters/firstborn to get into the game) I wish you gentlemen all success and best wishes for for 2007.

Yours

Gordon Mann

PS: Where can I get some O/S pistons for a waterbottle :) ????

Welcome aboard, any new numbers in WA will certainly help.
There are a few waterbottle specialty boards on the web, perhaps try them.

That is fantastic. Welcome to the fold.
You are in good hands with Alan and Mike. I have not met two keener people than them. And don't worry about asking silly questions (you will mostly find that somebody else wanted to ask the same question) between us we will try and answer them.

As for GT pistons (and other parts)as John said there are a number of options on the web but the Kettle Club in England are a good contact. For pistons I got a set a while back from You must be logged in to see this link. so you could check them out and see if they are still in the market. For second hand bits you can give me a try if you can't find something 'coz I have a few bottle bits laying around that would love to go racing.

Well it seems I can't proof read very well. My apologies to all concerned but it seems that my email address that was handed out to all and sundry at the Nationals at Mac Park was missing a 'p'.
My real email address is geoffpgrant@iprimus.com.au not the one that some of you got.
Many apologies for any confusion - I am only a sidecar racer - doh.
Please let everybody know because I was expecting a few emails that I have not received and this is probably the answer to it.
In the meantime, we are looking forward to a great year of sidecar racing. I know a few of us are already making plans for the Nationals at Eastern Creek but before that I have heard that the Southern Classic is a target along with the Old Farts meetings at Mac Park and Broadford and the Vic State Titles at Broadford.
Of course a few of us will be catching up at the Island Classic (I think that is the case anyway 'coz I have not yet got any confirmations from PIMS - has anyone else?).
Anyway, put a note on here to let everyone know what race meetings you are hoping to get to and we will see what we can do about getting some numbers there to make the racing all the more fun.
Happy New Year to you all.

Yes, 18 sidecars entered.
A special cautionary note from MA for any P5 machine teams, you must ensure your rims are not wider than 9 " or your simply will not ride

Well done to all who have supported John and Co`s efforts with the Island Classic. A special thanks to John Daley from me for offering a spare bike for me to ride which I was unfortunately unable to take up. Any chance of a breakdown in entries John so we can see how many there are in each class, I assume they will all run together as is normal.
Following on for later in the year it is my intention to ride in the Nationals and also the Southern Classic providing the dates etc are suitable. If anyone knows where a large motorhome can be parked close to Eastern Creek that would help a lot, pity we cant camp there like we did at Mt Gambier but life cant always be so close to perfect.

I am asking if those of you who read these notes without posting please consider doing so. It has been a lonely existance promoting poutfits and at tiomes I wonder if anybody is reading and acting on the ideas. For simply selfish reasons it would be nice to who is reading the information, thanks in advance.

reading anything I can find anywhere pertaining to sidecars and waiting for the performance review after PI, absolutely hanging to scare the wits out of my pilot with stories of how fast he's going to have to be to avoid the only thing he's scared of..... embarrassment........:) I'll only embellish the tales a little....... stuff it.... a LOT.

keep it coming guys

Poipeye, maybe that is a lesson he needs to learn without your help. That way he may feel more comfortable about being invoved, rather than looking for a way out. As we all know it is not the speed that is the issue, just the perception but over all I race because of the fun I have not because I want to drive my passenger nuts.
It will be good to see you on the track.
