A special thanks and congratulations to the sidecar teams for getting back on the track. 20 sidecars is a wonderful sight.
Details
One P5 turned up with oversized rims and unfortunately he had not gone to Mt Gambier and was not aware up front of the rules which specify 9 " rims.
I understand from stories there was a discussion about allowing the wider rims and Barry Horners skirt on his P5 outfit.

The racing was close with Max Hooper P4 winning each P4 race, I improved really well to grab two seconds, Ben Needham grabbed another.
The real uncomer was Neill Paton P5 who had what must be his most successful meeting, beating all comers in most races. Well done Neill.
The event also welcomed a number of newcomers to sidecar racing all of whom really enjoyed themselves.
The racing broke down to two groups, the old timers happened to be at the front and 15 seconds behind were the group of newbies. Both groups had close racing within the groupings. I can say I heard the crowd loved it and I may be able to confirm soon that I have talked with some blokes in the UK to bring some Hillman Imp powered P4 and P5 sidecars out.
Overall I was very happy with our performance and I think all teams can be proud of their own efforts.
The only downside was that Don Cooke managed to kiss the wall at Honda, his Bike was Ok that is important and Don was riding later as well.
If we can lift the numbers to say 28 sidecars next year I think it will be a great task to aim at.

the rules also specify 7 inch front and 8 inch side we are changing our rim sizes hopefully for vic titles. i have also noticed the rules allow us to run 1300cc is this correct, our motors have always been 1155 or 1166cc but if this rule is correct we have all the bits ready to make a 1296cc engine i wonder what will happen to our lap times then mark

I agree John, it was a great thing to have the sidecars happening at the Island again. From my point of view I would like to put another aspect of the weekend. That aspect is the camaraderie of sidecar racers. As all who were there will remember, I had a few problems with mine which necessitated a gearbox rebuild after only two laps of practice and then some subsequent problems which ultimately resulted in us missing qualifying and only managing to compete properly in the two races on Sunday. During the time I was working on the outfit most (some had their own problems to attend to) of the other sidecar people came to offer help and at one point there were several people assisting me with one person making a new chain adjuster for me whilst I tended to electrical problems. My point in writing this is that there are very few sports where your opponents will help you get out there to compete with them. Sidecar racers are a rare breed indeed and it is one of the things that makes sidecar racing so much fun. I am not going to list names of those who helped (because I am certain to miss one...) but thanks to all of you anyway. And for anyone who is thinking of getting into sidecar racing, rest assured, there are a lot of people in it who will assist you in any and every way.
Oh, and, just in case you are interested, the two races we managed resulted in a 2nd and a 3rd (even starting from rear of grid as a result of missing qualifying) so the work was all worth it. And I have to say, we did enjoy the challenge of threading our way through the field.
All in all it was a very fun weekend.

I too can add the help I got from many when my electrics seemed doomed and my chain broke. I have alwats found sidecra teams want to help you onto the track so they can then beat you to the line. Its a great sport.
